Roots

Roots was a collective set up by Phoebe and three other youth and community workers (Aoife Anderson, Colum Culleton and Jonah Anderson). In 2021 they received €6,000 from the European solidarity project to deliver a series of filmmaking workshops with young Asylum seekers who had recently arrived to Dublin. This picture was taken at the end of a four-day filmmaking workshop in October 2022. The workshop was held in the Jesuit Refugee Service on Dublin’s Gardiner Street. At the end of the four days, the participants had created a short horror film entitled ’No Escape’. The participants of the workshop were all, at the time, living in Balseskin Reception Centre in Dublin and were aged between 14-18 years old.
Below is a short film entitled Blank Canvas created during another three-day workshop. The participants created this stop-motion animation exploring the theme of 'creative block'.
